The SEBA "Hoops & Hope" Showcase was a FREE nonprofit exposure event which provided Class of 2021 high school seniors the opportunity to compete and display their skills in front of college coaches, media, and scouts. With the successful event now in the books, Here are a few brief takeaways from the weekend:
College Coaches Back in the Gym
Despite a different feel due to the pandemic, the state of Georgia has had grassroots basketball events and tournaments being held almost every weekend since the beginning of July. While the competition and talent level at many of these of events has been very high, the one thing that was visibly missing was College Coaches in the gym these past few months. So it was great to have strong representation from over 20+ College Coaches that were physically in the building at Hoops & Hope. While the coaches were masked up and socially distanced, their presence was highly encouraging. Needless to say, it was a great opportunity for the players; and the coaches seemed to be grateful for the chance to be in the gym and evaluate in person. And a reminder to the coaches whose institutions are not yet allowing them to recruit off campus (which are quite a few); please feel free to reach out if you would like participating player info. We will have complete FREE game film from the event available later in the week.
Georgia's Basketball talent is Crazy Good
The Peach State has been known nationally for years now as a breeding ground for High Major D1 talent and future NBA stars. However, what isn't discussed as much is the sheer depth of talent in our state. Georgia produces a massive amount of players who go on to great careers at all levels of College basketball. An event like this really brings this fact to light. There were numerous kids who shined on Saturday who are NOT big name players on a State level....but whom I have no doubt will be great players at the next level.
New Level of Hunger Among 2021 Prospects
Class of 2021 Prospects with aspirations of playing College Basketball are in the most challenging situation of any class in recent memory. Regardless, this class is a resilient group who have dealt with the challenges of this year incredibly well. It was refreshing to see these young men truly compete and enjoy the game of basketball this past Saturday. The level of intensity was very atypical for a Fall exposure event. It was great to see.
