Land O Lakes 63 - Middleton 65
What seemed to be a sure victory for
the Gators turned out to be a fantastic come from behind win for
Coach Smith and his Tigers. Leading by 13 points heading into
the fourth quarter, the Gators proceeded to commit 5 turnovers
all leading to points for Corey Thomas (game high 26 points) and
Khiry Anfield (13 points). With 12 seconds remaining in the
game, Middleton's Corey Thomas sank a three pointer giving the
Tigers a two point lead. On the ensuing possession, the Gators'
Jerome Harrison had a good look but fell short as time ran out.

The 5:30 game appeared to be a chess
match between two of the areas top coaches in Sickles Renaldo
Garcia and St Pete Catholics Mike Moran. Lead by the strong play
of sophomore point guard Jordan Davis and junior Darion Conner,
the Gryphons were able to hold off Tracy Parks (game high 20
points) and the rest of the Barons.

Land O Lakes 80 - Sickles 58
Land O Lakes dominated the first
three quarters of play as they did on the previous night. The
major difference in the 4th quarter of this game was the
outstanding play of Gators point guard PJ Potts. PJ was able to
handle the pressure provided by the backcourt tandem of Kevin
Daniels and Jordan Davis.

Middleton 59 - Tampa Prep 57
With two starters out for Tampa Prep
(SG Jamal Cherry, PF Patrick McCarthy) the Terrapins relied on a
core group of underclassman and senior leadership of Conner
Fenlon and David Waller to lead them past 2007 Class 5A District
10 champion Middleton Tigers. With a fourth quarter that was
highlighted by 8 lead changes and Khiry Anfield's (Middleton
Tigers) twelve fourth quarter points, the Terrapins had a chance
to win or tie the game with less than two seconds remaining in
the game. Unfortunately for Tampa Prep, a last second shot by
Junior Thomas Cagne fell short giving Coach Smith a great start
to his season.

SEBA is extremely excited to be hosting
the fourth annual Thanksgiving Day Classic. This year we have
added a field of competitive 14/under travel basketball teams to
the docket. The teams include the top eighth grade boys players
from Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk, and Pinellas Counties. In
addition to the travel teams, we have received commitments from
some of the top High School programs in the state including last
year's Class 4A State Runner-Up Kathleen Red Devils, Class 2A
State Semi-finalist Tampa Prep Terrapins and Class 5A Regional
Finalist Wharton Wildcats.
Please check back as we will be
highlighting individual teams and players leading up to the
event.
SICKLES GRYPHONS
The Gryphons won the Class 6A - District 7
championship in 06'-07' and finished 19-7 after losing to
Orlando Dr. Phillips in the region semifinals. Sickles returns 3
key players in sophomore point guard Jordan Davis, junior swing
man Darian Connor, and junior forward Kelvin Daniels. Davis has
started the season off with a 19 point performance in a win
versus county foe Chamberlain Chiefs and looks to improve his
squad to 2-0 against Wharton tonight at 7:45pm.
KATHLEEN RED DEVILS
The Red Devils return two key players off
last year's Class 4A state runner up team in 6'1" point guard
Miguel Paul (Missouri commit) and 6'8" PF Kevin Foster (George
Mason commit) and a host of young players that will fit into
Coach Taylor's style of play. New addition Bradley Tumer will
provide excellent defense and ball handling which will be needed
with the graduation of Idell Bell. The Red Devils are favored to
win Class 4A District 9 on their way back for a repeat date with
Monsignor Pace in the state title game.
WHARTON WILDCATS
Along with the departure of Coach Tommy
Tonelli (USF, Basketball Operations) the Wildcats graduated four
key players, all of who went to play in college. Last year's
team boasted a 29-2 record and in many basketball enthusiasts
eyes were second in the state to Lake Howell bar none. The
Wildcats will look to senior small forward Anthony Manuel
(verbal commitment to the Citadel), swingman Derrick Holmes, and
point guard Chris Jean-Louis to lead them back to a Class 5A
District 9 title.
ST PETERSBURG CATHOLIC
Coach Mike Moran enters his seventh year as
head coach of the Barons and looks to senior guard Tracy Parks
(South Alabama commit) to lead the way. With the departure of Ed
Rolax, the Barons will look to a host of young players to fill
the interior role. The Barons return 3 guards with varsity
experience and will look to play an up and down pace this year.
MIDDLETON TIGERS
Last year the Tigers were a team who flew
beneath the radar finishing off a lack luster season with the
upset of both Plant High and Chamberlain High to win the Class
5A District 10 title. Look for the Tigers to improve their 14-15
record behind the strong guard play of Khiry Anfield and
baseball phenom Corey Thomas. Khiry has developed his skills in
the off season, which he displayed in the Fall SEBA Showcase
07', particularly in his range. We look forward to a key match
up with the strong guard play of Tampa Prep Saturday night at
8:30pm.
LAND O LAKES GATORS
The Gators look to improve this year with
the development of Jerome Harrison and PJ Potts. The team will
be led by senior back court and steady improvement of center
Mike Espinosa. Jerome Harrison is arguably one of the best
shooting guards in Pasco County and the Gators will need him to
step it up come district time.
TAMPA PREP TERRAPINS
The Terrapins are coming off of a stellar
season finishing in the state semifinals of Class 2A. With the
loss of power forward Walter Perkins (St Leo), the
Terrapins will look to push the ball behind senior swingman
David Waller and a host of guards with varsity experience.
Connor Fenlon (9.7 asp) controls the point while junior
Jake Haslem and sophomore shooting guard Jamal Cherry look to
support Waller and the rest of the Terrapins. Look for an
exciting District showdown with Calvary Christian on January
15th.
