Showcase Event Review - (updated 10/1/09)
High School Boy's Tampa Fall Showcase -
September 19, 2009
The following review was compiled by SEBA’s
staff with the intent of distribution to over 200 colleges
throughout the southeastern United States. A total of thirteen (13)
coaches instructed, coached, evaluated, and had the opportunity to
interact with each of the one hundred ten (110) participants
attending the boy’s high school SEBA Showcase. There were 21
counties represented giving the college coaches in attendance the
opportunity to see some of the top talent central Florida has to
offer.
SEBA has broken down the top performers by
class and in no particular order.
Class 2010
-
Steven Kraus – 6’7 – F – Oldsmar Christian
o
Steven is a highly skilled forward. He possesses the
ability to consistently knock down the 15-17’, can put the ball on
the floor to create looks for himself, decent back to the basket
ability. He did a nice job of finishing around the basket when going
up against more physically imposing players. Very coachable, great
in the classroom.
-
Alon Seltzer – 6’4 – Shooting Guard - Lower Marion, PA
o
Alon is a nice size two guard, big and athletic yet
smooth and fluid. Possesses great offensive skill set. He is very
fluid off the dribble, finishes well in traffic, and consistently
knocks it down from behind the arc. Worked extremely hard throughout
the day and excelled in the game portion of the day. Competed on the
18/u Maccabi/USA team. This kid is a steal for a Sunshine State
Conference school.
-
Jay Bowie – 6’5 – Small Forward – Tampa Prep
o
Jay is the type of player who you want on your team in
any situation. He has a motor that doesn’t quit. Jay attacks the
glass on every possession on both ends of the floor. He has
developed nice touch from 17’ and in. Creates mismatch problems as
posts are too slow to guard him off the dribble and guards are too
small to defend in the post. Great teammate, very athletic.
-
Gab Moton – 6’2 – Shooting Guard – St Pete High
o
Gab is very smooth on the offensive end of the floor.
Deceptively quick, he can finish off plays with his athleticism over
the top of posts or create for his teammates. Takes care of the ball
extremely well. Tough half court defender, but would like to see him
put more pressure on ball handlers. Consistent jumper from behind
the arc and in. Should be one of Pinellas County’s top players this
year.
-
Eric Williams – 6’9 – F – Wiregrass High School
o
Eric has made tremendous strides over the past two
years particularly on his offensive skill development. Runs the
floor very well, athletic, very active defensive player. Eric has
developed a 15’ to go along with a great touch on his baby jump
hook. Great kid, best days of basketball are ahead of him.
-
Jordan Heath – 5’10 – PG – Tampa Prep
o
Jordan possesses a high offensive skill set. He can
handle the ball, shoot consistently from behind the arc, as well as
put the ball on the floor to create for his teammates. Jordan has a
strong frame, deceptively quick, and controls the team on the floor.
-
Jordan Davis – 5’10 – PG – Sickles High School
o
Jordan is the consummate point guard, minus the range.
Every time I see this kid play I am in awe on how well he sees the
floor. He is quick, strong, smart, and exudes extreme confidence on
the floor. He is the type of player a coach can hand the ball to and
tell him to run the show. The only draw back, which I have said
since I saw him play as a freshman, was his ability to shoot the
ball from behind the arc. Could be one of the best PG’s to come
through Hillsborough County is a very long time.
-
Devin Paularinno – 6’4 – Swing - Seffner Christian
o
This kid is a winner. He does what is asked with no
questions, very skilled, is a tough matchup for any defender. Devin
can post smaller guards as well as bigger forwards, great footwork,
finishes strong. Devin also possesses range beyond the arc, shoots
it very consistent from 18-19’. He also can put the ball on the
floor and create for himself.
-
Reinis Ozolins – 6’3 – Shooting Guard – St Pete Catholic
o
Reinis is a strong two guard. He slashes to the basket
well and finishes strong. Reinis also possesses nice tough from the
perimeter consistently shooting it well from 17’ and in. He also
knocked down a few from behind the arc. He is a tough nosed
defender, but needs to work on some man to man fundamentals. Should
be one of the scoring leaders in Pinellas County this upcoming
season.
-
Demetrius Jackson (DJ) – 6’4 – Swing – Armwood High School
o
DJ is one of Hillsborough County’s most explosive
players. He recorded 4 triple double last year as a junior and
didn’t disappoint the day of the event. He jumps extremely well for
his size, and possesses great strength around the basket. He can
guard bigger players including posts, as well as shut down the other
teams best perimeter player. Slashes well to the basket and can
finish above the rim or with contact. Should be tops in Hillsborough
County in all statistical categories this year.
-
Jamal Cherry – 6’4 – Shooting Guard – Tampa Prep
o
Jamal has transcended his game from a spot up shooter
to an overall shooting guard. He showed he is capable of slashing to
the basket through contact and finishing off plays. He had several
high flying finishes including a dunk in transition with a defender
hanging off of him. He competed on both ends of the floor.
-
Tevin Grant – 6’4 – Shooting Guard – Bartow High School
o
Tevin is extremely athletic 2 guard that is gifted on
the offensive end. Last year was his first year of playing
organized basketball. He needs to work on moving without the ball
and creating for teammates. He possesses a natural ability to get to
the rim and finish. Very raw, best days of basketball could be ahead
of him.
-
Fred Lewis, Jr. – 6’5 – Swing – Bayshore Christian
o
Fred is a long, athletic swing with great finishing
ability around the basket. He can take his man off the dribble and
post up smaller defenders. Fred has his best days of basketball
ahead of him, huge potential.
-
Ricky Lane – 5’9 – Point Guard - Brandon High
o
Ricky gets to the basket with ease and makes good
decisions with the ball. Pushes the ball up putting pressure on the
defense and helps put his teammates in good position to score. Nice
touch from behind the arc. Tough kid.
-
Franklin Agohlor – 5’10 – Point Guard – Oldsmar Christian
o
Franklin has steadily improved his ability to run a
team. He possesses great athleticism and offensive skill set. Once
this kid hones his decision making and defensive skill set he is
going to be the consummate point guard.
-
Marc Royster – 5’10 – Point Guard – Dade Christian
o
Marc is very good off the dribble creating shots for
his self or setting up teammates putting the in good position to
score. Floor leader, solid on the ball defender.
-
Cory Carden – 5’9 – Point Guard – Clearwater High
o
You can tell immediately Cory is the type of player
who works hard, understands the game very well, and how to manage a
team. He works hard on both sides of the ball on every possession,
runs the team on the offensive side of the ball, putting players in
position to make plays. Good strength with the ball, good range.
-
Alton Honors – 6’ – Combo – Plant City High
o
Athletic, tough kid. Alton was Plant City’s team MVP
in 08`. He has good potential, needs to become a little more of a
student of the game. Improve his movement without the ball and
decision making on the break.
-
Damien Dixon – 6’1 – Shooting Guard – Wharton High
o
Damien had a good day scoring the basketball. Able to
get to the basket and finish. Team player, looks to make his
teammates better around him. Kept his energy up throughout the day.
-
Jamil Miller – 6’3 – Swing – St Pete High
o
Long athletic player, attacks the basket. Jamil plays
hard and competes. He should be a big part of the St Pete High
team’s success this year.

Class of 2011 – 2013 & JUCO To Be Updated by
11/6/09
-
Avimael Ramirez – 5’10 – PG – Leto High
o
Avimael was the biggest surprise of the camp, had an
outstanding day. At one point he rattled of 15 straight points
including a couple 3’s and finishes at the basket. Sleeper of the
camp. He worked hard throughout the day and had a great day scoring
the basketball. He came ready to play and made a name for himself.
-
Josh Brown – 6’10 – Center – Clearwater High
o
Josh is a tall lanky kid. To state the obvious he
needs to add some LB’s to his frame. That being said, he possesses
nice tough from 15’ and in. Competes, understands the game and what
needs to be done. He should improve a lot this year going up against
Okaro White everyday in practice.
-
Andre Smith – 5’9 – Point Guard – Blake High
o
Could be Hillsborough County’s best player in this
class, hands down the best point guard in 11`. He continues to
improve upon his weaknesses, strong body, handles the ball vs
pressure, and creates a shot whenever he wants it. The only area I
would like to see Andre improve upon is his defense skill set. He
possesses the ability to change the game on both sides of the floor
once he decides to do so. Great off the one dribble pull up as well
as the catch and shoot. Text book form on the jumper, finishes over
the top of any size defender…explosive and crafty.
-
Parmis Damien – 6’ – Shooting Guard – Miami Pace
o
Extremely athletic and deceptively long. Cody has a
strong body taking contact well and finishing. Finished a few plays
at the basket with dunks. I would like to see him play at a quicker
pace and impose some will on the defensive side.
-
Trent Mackey – 6’3 – Point Guard – Newsome High
o
Prototypical coach’s son, understands the game well,
plays hard, shoots the ball very well from behind the arc and in.
Great teammate, great decision making, and a great kid to match. One
area he has made some big strides is his strength putting on some
muscle in the off season. Should be a big part of a great Newsome
team.
-
Xavier Owens – 6’4 – Swing – Wharton High
o
Xavier has a strong body and knows how to use it.
Possesses a two guard skill set to go along with good touch behind
the arc. Finishes well at the hoop with either hand. I look forward
to his development over the next two years under Coach Tonelli.
-
Rashawn Rembert – 6’3 – Shooting Guard – Sickles High
o
This kid is a work horse improving his skill set
drastically over the last three years. He is a long, athletic two
guard. Great range, possesses a scorer’s mentality. Very athletic in
drills, would like to see him transfer that athleticism to finishing
at the basket at game speed. Great kid.
-
Hunter Clonts – 5’9 – Point Guard – Jesuit High
o
Another tough kid, works harder than anyone in the
gym. Has improved upon his range shooting the ball. Strong body, can
run the team under pressure. He has the ability to take his man off
the dribble and drive through contact. Good teammate. Hunter has the
ability to push the tempo of the game as well as run the show in the
half court.

-
Allen Wilson – 5’10 – PG – St Pete
Class 2012
-
Devontae Morgan – 6’3 – Combo – Tampa Prep

One of the best on the ball defenders in camp. Has the
ability to turn his defender 2 -3’s times before half court, then
possesses great anticipation & arm length to create turnovers.
Extremely athletic, finishes well above the rim. Gets to the free
throw line. Shot the ball very well today and continually is in the
gym improving upon his jump shot. Handles the ball well vs pressure,
has the ability to slash to the basket at any time.
-
Brandon Ganesh – 6’ – Combo – American Heritage
o
Great teammate, pushes the ball up the floor creating
pressure on the defense. Finds the open teammate. Knows how to
create for himself and finish off plays. Has the ability to score
the basketball a number of ways.
-
Dylan Bridges – 6’2 – Shooting Guard – Newsome High
o
Great spot up shooter, heady offensive player. He
plays tough on the ball defense and understands off the ball
defense. Needs to improve upon his quickness and strength.
-
Michael Frazier – 6’3 – Shooting Guard – Plant High
o
Michael is one of the best in the state in his class
at shooting off the catch and dribble. His one and two dribble pull
up is well developed, and his range makes him a threat from several
feet behind the arc. Tough matchup for smaller guards as he can
shoot right over the top of them Would like to see Mike use his
length and athleticism on the defensive end a bit more.
-
Jonathon Wade – 6’4 – Shooting Guard – Rutherford High
o
Great kid, hard worker. John is longer than his 6’4
height and uses it on both sides of the floor. Hits the offensive
and defensive boards hard, creates easy opportunities for his self
and teammates. Once John hones his two guard skill set he will be a
tough match up for any defender.
-
Quincy Mitchell – 6’6 – Forward – Tampa Prep
o
Quincy is a big, strong, athletic kid. He creates
mismatches with his size taking smaller defenders in the post as
well as having the ability to step out and knock down the 3 ball. He
competes on both sides of the ball and is a great rebounder. Sky is
the limit if he continues to work hard on and off the court.
-
Stephen Bollinger – 6’5 – Forward – St John
o
Stephen is a good size kind, young, plays extremely
hard. He stood out with his work ethic competing in stations &
drills giving 100% effort. He needs work on his footwork and face up
game. With his size and effort he should blossom into a fantastic
prospect.
Class 2013
-
Josh Heath – 5’10 – Point Guard – Tampa Prep
o
Great handle, outstanding basketball IQ beyond his
years, uses his teammates well. Josh is a fantastic player with a
huge upside. We look forward to watching him develop his range as
well as his strength and athleticism.
-
Magdevius Bruin – 6’3 – Forward – Miami Pace
o
The first thing that comes to mind is Charles Barkley
at a young age. Weighing in at 260 pounds at 6’3, he is not a small
kid. Light on his feet for his size, decent post up game, has huge
potential to dominate the glass on either side of the floor.
-
Malik Price-Martin – 6’9 – Forward – Miami Pace
o
Malik runs the floor well, plays hard, not afraid to
match up with the players in camp that were 7 years his elder with
filled out frames. We look forward to seeing him develop under Coach
Lieberman…key an eye of this youngster.

SHOWCASE EVENT REVIEW

SEBA Fall Boys' Showcase ‘08
The 6th Annual SEBA
Fall Showcase Event displayed some of the better talent from around
central and south Florida. The event was attended by local colleges
including Florida Southern, Tampa, and St Leo among others. These
scouts were able to witness the current stock of college ready ball
players such as Rakeem Buckles (Miami Pace) who is headed to Rick
Pitino’s Louisville squad, as well as younger star prospects such as
Michael Frazier (Plant) who was one of ESPN’s freshmen to watch.
The state of Florida is so rich with athletes and ball players that
an event such as this can offer the local colleges and universities
a chance to find a diamond in the rough talent.
SEBA allows the kids
to demonstrate skills in a round of stations, 3 v 3, and 5 v5 games
with certified high school referees. The stations are led by former
collegiate and overseas players, high school coaches, and individual
skills trainers. Whereas the 5 on 5 games can become
guard-dominated, the 3 on 3 games provide every player a little more
spotlight to show what they can do versus competition. During the 5
on 5 games, all players regardless of perceived ability get the same
amount of time. This allows everyone equal opportunity to compete
against high-level competition and prove what they can do.
While half of the
players are going through a round of stations, the other half is an
auditorium listening to a guest speaker. This year SEBA brought in
Coach Zimroth, who was an assistant at USF. Coach “Z” is a
charismatic speaker who is able to get kids engaged into the speech
and is able to hold their attention while delivering an important
lesson. Most of the kids leaving the auditorium expressed their
approval of the Coach’s speech as “the best they have heard”.
The event is held in
the beautiful new facility on the campus of Tampa Preparatory
School. The gym has two full length courts that contain 8
legitimate basketball hoops. The players enjoy the flooring because
it is favorable for jumping. The second level is for coaches and
scouts only and gives a birds-eye view of all the stations and
games. SEBA provides a bbq buffet upstairs catered from a local
vendor.
The Showcase events
continue to get better and better each year and this year’s event
was no different as it was a very successful event for everyone
involved.
Franklin Agholor - 6’0 177 -
PG - Oldsmar Christian HS -`09
A true PG with great ball handling
ability. Showed a tendency to get too flashy with his skills, but
Franklin can be a solid PG when he plays within himself. He showed
the ability to pull up off the dribble and even knocked down a
couple wide open three-point shots. Franklin was an active on-ball
defender putting pressure on the ball handler and forcing mistakes.
Jamal Cherry - 6’4 175 - PG/SG -
Tampa Prep HS -`10
Jamal is a lengthy two-guard with
the ball handling skills of a PG. He has the mentality to attack
and the height which suit the combo guard role. He creates a lot of
contact when driving the lane, and gets to the free throw line often
where he almost automatic. Jamal also has great form and footwork
which allow for consistency on his spot-up and pull-up jumpers. He
still has two more seasons to learn the game, especially with his
passing and decision making. But Jamal has a great work ethic in
the off-seasons there is no reason why he cannot become a mid-major
Div 1 ball player.
Michael Frazier - 6’2 163 - SG Plant HS -`12
Listed as a 2/3 in a three guard
offense, Michael has one of the bigger upsides to any freshman in
the Central Florida area. He still looks as if he has a lot of
growth to add to an already long frame. He also looks to be able to
add strength as he is not a skinny young man.
Michael has an already developed
outside shot. And where most young kids want to always get to the
rack, he has the precocious sense to pull-up on the drive with a
high elevating, high release jump shot. Michael works a lot on his
offensive skill sets including the jab series which a lot of ballers
his age have yet to be taught. When his athleticism goes beyond his
peers, he will be a much sought after recruit.
Sean Cooper - 6’0 165 - PG/SG
- Land O Lakes HS -`09
Sean’s an excellent all around play
maker. He has the ability to stretch the defense with his range and
then blow by his defender when guarded too closely out on the
perimeter. He is a great ball hander who makes excellent decisions
both in attacking and in setting up teammates. He works a lot on
his jab series skill set which will help for 1 v 1 scenarios and
last second shots. He also understands the defensive side of the
ball very well.
Sean has a quiet
swagger about him that evinces a confidence without being too
obnoxious. This gives him the confidence to demand the ball in the
clutch. He works hard on his game and can certainly play at a small
D1 or D2 school.
Regan O’Rourke - 6’3 190 - PG/SG -
Clearwater HS -`09
Regan is a very strong
athletically gifted guard who has great instinct for the game. His
awareness helps him anticipate passing lanes and rebounds on both
ends of the floor. And then he has the quickness to defend and
leaping ability to play at the rim. He pounds the ball hard and
confidently on his dribble, and can power through the lane with his
finishes. He showed several nice one dribble pull-ups against quick
defenders, and was able to post up smaller weaker opponents. Regan
shows a passion for the game every minute he is out on the court.
Antwoine - Gardner 6’6 210 - PF -
King HS -`09
Antwoine showed a propensity to
post up on the low block. While he showed good moves and
fundamentals in this area on the court, he will do well to work on
his mid-range game if he wants to impress small D1 schools. He
seems to have the body and the athleticism to be a threat on the
perimeter, too. He’s strong, but not bulky which would limit his
mobility. He occasionally showed his mobility on the defensive end
as he had to guard some quick three-guards on the perimeter. Still,
he’s an excellent rebounder and shot blocker and could improve to be
a nice inside-outside threat and defender.
Jordan Heath - 5’11 175 - PG - Tampa Prep
HS -`10
Jordan is a very smart player with
and without the ball. As the son of a D1 head coach, you would
expect him to know the game and he shows it. He draws defenders
well to set up his teammates. He has a smooth left-handed stroke
that looks consistent from all ranges. He also has a nice lift on
his jump shot, and stops on a dime with his mid-range pull-ups.
Jordan has a nice jab series skill set which makes him hard to guard
on an isolation situation. Look for Jordan to rack up assists at
the point of a very strong Tampa Prep team this year.
Allen Thomas - 5’11 165 - PG - Wiregrass
HS -`09
Allen is an athletic PG with great
ball handling and shooting skills. He has a nice outside shot which
commands respect from the defense, yet has the potential to take his
defender wherever he wants. He is a very shifty athlete that can
get a defender off balance with the dribble or with a jab series
move. Allen is also a very creative finisher around the basket with
a plethora of floaters, reverses, and jump stops. Allen has the
ability and certainly the athleticism to play PG for a high Div 2
school.
Chris Perez - 6’4 197 - PG/SG - Oldsmar
Christian HS -`09
A dynamic player for his size,
Chris can handle the rock in the open court and attack the basket as
good as any quick PG. He has the ability to dish the rock and set
his teammates up off the dribble. He showed a variety of dribble
moves and spins on his drives and some nice no-look passes that
impressed bystanders. His size allows him to use his body well
inside the lane to finish through contact. Chris can score from
anywhere on the court and does so often. He knocked down several
long-range shots, hit some nice pull-up jumpers, and finished strong
around the hoop. Most kids have only one of these ranges down;
maybe two; but Chris seems to have comfort in all three ranges. He
may need to be quicker to be a big time prospect, but he certainly
has the skill to play D1 somewhere.
Cody Mann - 5’11 140 - PG - Miami Pace HS
-`11
A point guard in the truest sense
of the position. Cody is very quick even with the ball in his
hands. He knows how and more importantly when to change pace to
keep the defender off-balance. He can get to pretty much anywhere
he wants to with the ball. This gives him the opportunity to set
his teammates for open shots whenever he wants. Size is definitely
an issue however as his stated height is a stretch. But he can
pressure even the best point guards in the open floor.
Antonio Rodriguez - 6’2 144 - SG/SF -
Lennard HS -`11
Antonio has the work ethic and the
body type to become a solid two-guard at the next level. He has a
very long and thin frame, but he continues to grow. All the while,
he is working hard on guard skill sets, and has the potential to
fill into a prototypical two-guard. He gets pushed around despite
finishing hard, but again, once his weight catches up to his growth,
he will be able to use the skills he works on to greater success.
Eddie Fowler - 6’6 185 - SG/SF - PHCC
A very diverse player with an
inside-outside game. Can set up mismatches with either smaller
guards in the post or bigger SF’s that try to guard him on the
perimeter. Eddie does not stop working on both ends of the floor.
Jonathan Gray - 6’2 175 - SG - Berkeley
Prep HS -09`
Jonhathan is a long athletic guard who plays
bigger than his 6'2 frame. He has the ability to get create his own
looks off the dribble and pivot. One of Hillsborough's best scorers
on a very good team Johnathan can out the ball in the basket from
anywhere on the court and possesses a hair trigger.
Jay Bowie - 6’4 199 - SG/SF - Tampa Prep
HS -`10
Jay has a great basketball body.
He’s very physical and works hard on both ends of the floor. He
rebounds well because of his strength, athleticism, and competitive
drive to go after the ball. He also has good fundamentals to go
with his athletic drive, and that makes him a solid prospect for D1
schools. He has been under the radar till now, but he has
transferred to a much better program and will certainly have a big
year this year.
Rakeem Buckles - 6’8 203 - SF - Miami
Pace HS -`09
It doesn’t take long to tell why
Rakeem has committed to one of the premier D1 schools in College
basketball, Univ. of Louisville. He is extremely athletic and moves fluidly
at 6’8. He has raw talents, but seemed to do whatever he wanted
from anywhere on the floor. Several times he was able to take
smaller defenders off the dribble. And he was generally guarded by
the opponents best defender. He also has great skills underneath
the basket as the ball was dunked every time he had it in the low
post. He showed some promise as an outside shooter, which certainly
befits a Pitino prospect.
Daniel Nilsson-Cole - 5’11 - 145 -
Berkeley Prep HS -`09
Daniel is a very fundamental
player. A sharp shooter from long range and excellent off the
pull-up, he couples his shooting abilities with good ball handling
and PG skills. He isn’t the most athletic PG and being under 6 feet
will hurt his chance to become solid at a high level of collegiate
ball. However, he is a very intelligent player and knows how to
play good team basketball, and could be a nice addition to a low D2
school.
Dustin McGahee - 6’1 175 - PG/SG -
East Lake HS -`10
Dustin is a PG with the strength
of SF, which helps him rebound well for his position as well as for
playing physical defense on weaker guards. He is more athletic than
he appears and has a great feel for the game. Dustin can score
consistently beyond the three-point arc, which makes it tough to
double team the post when he’s setting up his big man.
Quentin Bastian - 6’6 220 - Land O Lakes
HS -`10
Quentin uses his body well in the
paint to get position for rebounds and easy buckets. He also showed
the wherewithal to make good passes out of the post.
Darren Stewart - 6’4 200 - SF - Miami
Pace HS -`09
Darren has a tremendous heart and
a great “team first” attitude. He as a great body, and has a good
feel for getting to the basket and drawing fouls.
Matt Kendrick - 6’9 215 - PF -
Chamberlain HS -`09
Matt has a wide frame, which helps
him rebound and get solid position for his post moves. He has a
nice hook shot, which he can execute over both shoulders. His
biggest assets are defending the basket with his size and
rebounding.
Harold Doby - 6’6 195 - SF - Oldsmar
Christian HS -`09
Harold is a great kid with a good
attitude who loves to play hard on both ends of the floor. He has a
great basketball frame and is very athletic.
Michael Cardwell - 6’2 175 - SG/SF - Land
O Lakes HS -`10
Michael is an athletic ball player
that works hard on the boards as well as defending the perimeter.
He has good speed and runs the floor well. Although defense is his
key asset, he has a nice shot off the pull up and spot up jumpers.
Could use some better ball handling, but is certainly a collegiate
athlete.
Demetrius
Jackson - 6'4 187 - SF - Armwood HS -`10
Demetrius
is a very solid inside presence averaging a double-double including
an astounding 4.4 blocks per game in his Sophomore year. He's a
wiry individual with the athleticism to help him rebound and defend
the help side well. Most of his buckets come inside the paint.
Demetrius will need to extend the range of his offense during his
last two seasons to get the attention of big time schools. He
boasts a 34 inch vertical, which will only improve with maturity; so
he has the athleticism to play at a high level if he develops his
game accordingly.
Jordan Davis - 5'9 185 -
PG - Sickles HS -`10
Jordan has a very high basketball IQ. One of the few players who
understands how to manage a team. Does an outstanding job of
distributing the ball making sure players are getting involved.
Jordan also possesses the ability to beat people off the dribble and
finish at the rim. Strong athletic player who has his best days of
basketball ahead of him. This young man is one of those players who
becomes better when he is surrounded by better players, a true point
guard. One area we would like to see Jordan improve is his ability
to knock down the 18'.
Devin Paularinne - 6'4 195 - Sefner
Christian - `10
Devin is an inside-out player who had an outstanding sophomore year
for Coach Duncan. Devin has the ability to guard posts or guards and
creates mismatches for opposing players. He has the ability to score
with his back to the basket as well as knock down the 19'. Very
coachable, tough, fundamentally sound player.
Andre Smith - 5'8 160 - Blake HS - `11
Andre had an outstanding day at camp. He possesses un unmatched
ability to change gears and keep defenders on theirs heels. Great
decision maker on the break and the dribble drive, he consistently
makes basketball plays. Andre has an explosive first step and can
pull up on a dime from 17' and in. This kid is a special player and
we look forward to watching him progress over the next three
seasons.
Rashawn Rembert - 6'2 185 - Sickles HS -
`11
Rashawn is a very athletic two guard who possesses a scorer's
mentality. Rashawn moves very well without the ball and know how to
use screens. He's a competitor who is very coachable.
Eric Williams - 6'7" 190 - Wiregrass HS -
`10
This kid has great defensive instincts. Eric, still undersized at
190, has the ability to change opponents shots around the bucket. He
needs to add one or two go to moves on the offensive end.
Cory Carden - 5'9" 160 - Clearwater HS -
`10
Cory knocked down the 19' and provided ball control throughout the
day. Very good decision maker. Should have a great season for
Clearwater this year.
Greg Wirth - 6'4 180 - Alonso HS - `10
Alonso's returning leading scorer and go-to-guy, Greg has the
ability to finish around the hoop and knock down the 19'.
Eric Diggs - 5'10 160 - King HS - `09
Eric, a four year varsity player, is a tough point guard and gritty
player. He is an great on the ball defender, works hard on both ends
of the floor, and makes good decisions. He is tough to guard off the
dribble as well as the pivot, demonstrating a quick first step. Gets
into the teeth of the defense and finishes plays.
Fred Lewis Jr. - 6'4 190 - Bayshore
Christian - `10
An athletic two guard, Fred has the wingspan of a 6'8 player. Great
body, finishes well in traffic. He has he best days of basketball
ahead of him.
Lukas Poderis - 6'8 225 - Ridgewood HS -
`09
Lukas is a very skilled on the low block & has the ability to knock
down the 17'. Works hard on the glass on both ends of the floor.
Great touch around the basket, can draw the foul and finish the
play. Conference player of the year as a Junior.
Additional Standouts
AJ Gardner - 6'0 190 - Durant HS - `09
Joe Raga - 6'5 195 - Bloomingdale HS -
`09
Sean Hayes - 6'1 - Bloomingdale HS - `09
Kelvin Daniels - 5'11 - Sickles HS - `09
Ryan Harris - 5'11 - Land O' Lakes - `09
2008 TAMPA FALL GIRLS' SHOWCASE REVIEW
Posted October 29, 2008
Katie Davis 5’8 Senior PG/SG Academy of
Holy Names
Katie is a strong, athletically
gifted, very fundamental basketball player. Hillsborough county’s
second leading scorer during her Junior season looks even more
confident with her skill sets and jump shot. She has an unmatched
competitive spirit and the drive to take over a game when needed.
She was repeatedly double-teamed, yet she was still able to be
effective. With that experience as the go-to player, she has become
even better as a team leader.
Katie’s strength helps her rebound
from the guard position and post-up weaker defenders. She can
finish drives through contact or with a variety of finishing moves.
Her main weapon however is a deadly pull-up jumper that she can
utilize driving in either direction. Her grasp of the jab series
sets her apart from even the elite competition; she cannot be
consistently guarded in one v one situations.
Over the summer, Katie worked
successfully to extend her range and now has become a scoring threat
from all three ranges. Her offensive talents overshadow how good
she is on defense. Her will and athleticism to shut down the
opposition makes her a complete player on both ends of the floor.
Colette Eule 5'8 Junior PG/SG Tampa
Catholic
Colette is a fundamentally sound
combo guard that has the toughness and strength to overpower
opponents. She isn’t the quickest of guards, but uses her body and
strength well to maintain control of the ball. And she is confident
with the dribble and can muscle through defenders to finish around
the basket. Her strength allows her to rebound well for a guard.
She has a nice long
range and mid range pull-up jumper. She can shoot from beyond the
arc with an effective percentage. Colette fills somewhat of a
point-forward role for TC because of her rebounding and ball
handling skills. She can be asked to fill any
Sarah Brennan 5'11 Junior SF/PF Tampa
Catholic
Sarah moves has a nice fluidity in
her movements, as she is both agile and athletic. She utilizes her
athleticism as her main weapon. And she is very effective on both
ends of the floor with her raw talents. She is very useful in the
transition game because she can run the floor on offense and hustle
back on defense as well as any post player. She can be utilized as
a defensive threat in a full or half court pressure set-up. Her
length and mobility are perfect for those pressure defenses. She
will also block a lot of shots.
She has shown the ability to knock
down 3-point shots consistently, which is impressive for her
position. With the addition of proper footwork and various
fundamentals, Sarah could improve even though she is already one
Hillsborough County’s better players.
Selena Castillo 5’6 Junior PG Academy of
Holy Names
Selena has a never-ending motor.
She is always hustling all over the floor. But she doesn’t just
hustle without intent; she has great reading and anticipation skills
to get into passing lanes. She pesters the ball handler and induces
mistakes, which she can quickly capitalize on and be down the floor
to finish a break.
Selena has confidence handling the
ball and running an offense. She enjoys setting her teammates up
for good shots more so than throwing up a wild shot off the drive.
She uses several double-moves to keep her defender off-balance and
in check from trying to gamble for a steal. She has a nice
three-point shot, which prohibits defenders from doubling off her as
she enters the ball to the low post.
On the court, Selena has a constant
smile and exudes the joy of someone who truly loves to play the
game. She was one of Hillsborough county’s leaders in steals and
assists during her Sophomore season, and will certainly improve upon
those numbers this year as she has more and much improved weapons
alongside her on the court.
Alyssa Viscomi SG
Alyssa quietly goes about doing all
the little things a team needs in order to be successful. She is
what any coach loves to have on the floor. She is very coachable,
which is a much overlooked trait in players.
Alyssa is a very good defender.
She got a hand on a lot passes disrupting the flow of the opponent’s
offense. She has a great feel for the game, and thus can anticipate
on defense and make the correct decision on offense. Alyssa is an
all around good player and can do well to get a little stronger and
work on footspeed.
Allison Daigle 5’11 170 Junior SF/PF
Academy of Holy Names
Ali has the skill sets of a guard
and a low post player. She has the potential to be a solid
inside-outside threat. She shows flashes of her talents during
games and needs to have more of an attacking mindset to become the
offensive threat she can be. She works hard on her fundamentals and
athleticism, and trains mostly as a guard in the off-season. She
has a nice one dribble pull-up, and a variety of jab series moves
she can utilize from the wing or when facing-up at either high/low
post. She also has shown the ability to knock down a shot from
beyond the arc, which, with improved consistency, will keep
defenders from lying off her at that range.
Ali has been more of an asset on
the defensive side and in rebounding for her high school and AAU
teams. She is still grasping the game, and with added playing
experience will be able to transfer what she has worked on so
extensively into competitive situations. She has the opportunity to
post big numbers in this, her Junior season, as she has the benefit
of having a great ‘true’ PG in Selena Castillo, and as opposing
teams try to deny Katie Davis the ball.
Leisha Hall 5'7 Senior PG/SG
Hillsborough HS
Leisha is a very good athlete with
the ball; can get to anywhere she wants to with the dribble. She
is a great scorer when driving to the basket. She tended to over
dribble and hog the ball, but she was impressive with her offensive
skills.
Leisha could be a stellar on-ball
defender if she wants to be. She needs to play hard on both ends of
the floor to become the complete player she can be.
Anna Young
An athletic guard with good ball
handling and passing skills. Showed efficiency with the inlet pass,
which is an overlooked skill. She seems to always be around the
ball. She is a tenacious on-ball defender and puts a lot of
pressure on the ball handler making it difficult for her to run an
offense.
Tanaysha Troutman 5'5 Senior PG Kathleen
HS
A very athletic and strong point
guard who has a constant motor. She plays hard on both ends of the
floor. She is very crafty with the ball, as she finished nice
drives with a variety of scoop lay-ups and floaters. She has plenty
of moves with the dribble and can get to any spot of the floor with
her quickness and strength. She showed that she could knock down
the mid range shot, as well. She is no doubt a next level athlete.
Erica Woods
A strong body, which she uses to
be a good rebounder and defender. She moves well without the ball
and positions herself nicely to be able to score off a dish or kick
out. She had good finishing moves including a nice power jump
stop.
Stasha Sharp 5'11 Junior F
Wharton HS
A lengthy, active, and athletic
power forward who get her hand on a lot of shots and passes. She
has great agility and leaping ability to go with a length that would
be very appealing to collegiate coaches. If Stasha can improve her
mid-range shot, she has the athleticism and body to play at a high
level of collegiate ball.
Maria Garcia 5'6 Senior PG IMG Academy
Maria is a great
competitor with a wide array of basketball skills. Maria makes
everyone around her a better player. She has great passing skills
and a solid jump shot, which keeps defenders from cheating off her
towards passing angles. She looked comfortable making all types of
passes including several one-handed passes that were right on
target. She is a scorer’s dream, as she will find the open teammate
and deliver a pass into the shooter’s pocket.
