SEBA ALUMNI "HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS" WITH COLLEGE TEAMS

The Holiday season brought two original SEBA Alumni "back home", as Anthony Fisher and Tyler Murray came to Georgia to compete with their respective college teams. Anthony, who is a senior Point Guard at Tennessee Tech University, was in Atlanta with his teammates to take on Georgia Tech at the Alexander Memorial Coliseum on Dec. 27. Tyler, who is a senior forward at Hampden-Sydney College, took to the court for a New Years Day battle with Lagrange College, which is about an hour and half outside Atlanta. Both Tyler (Harrison High grad) and Anthony (Chattahoochee High grad) are members of the first SEBA graduating class and were teammates on the the SEBA sponsored and Nationally ranked Georgia Warrior AAU teams in 2002 and 2003.

While the Tennessee Tech team was outplayed by Georgia Tech in the matchup 83-63; Anthony played very well against the ACC opponent. He was the game's overall leading scorer with 23 points and 4 assists in 33 minutes of play. He shot 6-11 from the floor and 9-11 from the line. Tyler was a major impact in Hampden-Sydeny's 67-53 victory over LaGrange. He pulled down 9 rebounds, dished out 5 assists, and had 8 points; while contributing to HSC tremendous defensive effort, which limited Lagrange to only 22 first half points. It was great to see these two tremendous young men in action and to for them to be able to play in front of their home town family and friends.

SEBA Players Have Major Impact at College Level

Sophomore Anthony Fisher was named Tennessee Tech University's Most Valuable Player at the program's annual banquet. After a superb freshman campaign where he was named to the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) All-Rookie Team, “Fish” emerged as Tech's leading scorer at almost 13 PPG in the 2005-06 campaign. Tennessee Tech was near the top of the OVC standings throughout the regular season. The Golden Eagles advanced to the semi final round of the OVC Tournament, where Anthony scored a game high 20 points and had a team leading 4 assists and 3 steals. Despite his efforts, Tech suffered a tough 72-66 semi final loss to #2 seeded Samford.
Fisher averaged 12.9 ppg and 2.6 rpg while also adding 29 steals and 64 assists. He was 117-of-271 (.432) from the field and 48-of-132 (.364) from behind the arc. Shooting almost 80% from the charity stripe (119-of-149), Fisher also picked up the team's Free Throw Award.

"Anthony demonstrated his ability to make game-winning plays for us," said TTU Head Coach Mike Sutton. "He led the team in scoring and free throw percentage, as well as ranking second in assists. He is an all-around player and makes big plays with the game on the line."

SEBA standout Bo Mason had a terrific sophomore season starring at the Point Guard Position for Maryville College (TN). The former Marietta High standout led the Scots to a 23-8 record, their Six consecutive Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) Regular Season Title, a National ranking, and spot in the NCAA Division III National Tournament. Bo was named Second Team All-Conference while averaging 13.3 PPG and a team leading 4.9 Assists per game. He also led Maryville in steals, minutes played, three pointers, and free throw percentage (80%). He was twice named the GSAC Conference Player of the week during the season. His top overall performance was in the First Round of the NCAA's; where Bo scored 29 Points (Nine made 3-Point Field Goals) and dished out 5 assists (with amazingly zero turnovers) in the 83-64 victory over Trinity University (Texas). The Nine made three-pointers set a Maryville College record.

Hampden Sydney College (VA) season came to end with a loss in the Semi finals of the ODAC Tournament. The Tigers finished the season with a 18-10 record. SEBA’s Tyler Murray had a very good season and was a main contributor for HSC, who started the season at 11-0. The Tigers were Nationally ranked as high as #10 in the January NCAA Poll. HSC Head Coach Bubba Smith said that Murray was the team’s Top Defensive Player and emotional leader. He also ranked among the Tigers Top 5 in scoring, rebounding, steals, and blocks.

Ahmed Shaheed had a breakout sophomore season for Oglethorpe University. Shaheed was named Honorable Mention All-Conference (SCAC) after a campaign which saw him post ten "double-doubles". He ranked among the conference's top rebounders and shot blockers. There is no doubt Shaheed is going to be a force for Oglethorpe the next two seasons.

David Gonzalvez is having a terrific season at Notre Dame Prep (Mass). The 6' 4" Combo Guard, who was an integrel part of Wheeler High Schools Class AAAAA State Championship team last season, has made a very strong contribution for Notre Dame. Notre Dame Prep is currently ranked as the consensus #1 Prep School in the Nation. David is being recruited heavily by Division I schools from throughout the country. This includes offers from West Virginia, UT-Chattanooga, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville University, James Madison, St. Bonaventure, and Mercer. David will make his college decision prior to the NCAA Spring signing period.

Freshman Point Guard Travis Moore was named "Newcomer of the Year" by the Great South Athletic Conference. The Former Etowah High school star played very well down the stretch for the Panthers. As the season progressed and the starting point guard for Lagrange went down, Travis saw increased playing time and quickly became adjusted to the rigors of playing the lead guard position at the college level. Travis ' top performance was a 15 points and 5 assists outing in Lagrange College’s 91-86 loss to Piedmont. Another Etowah product, Shon Redding, provided solid front court depth for the young Lagrange squad.

Freshman Shooting Guard Ryan Dougherty (Marietta) had an explosive performance 28 Point performance in North Florida's 90-78 victory over Jacksonville University at the Suntrust River City Rumble. Dougherty shot 9-13 from the field and 7-8 from the charity stripe. Dougherty has been a big part of the UNF game plan during his rookie season.

Presbyterian College has two SEBA Alums making big contributions to their squad. Sophomore Drew Biggs (Chattahoochee) and Freshman Bryan Bostic (Norcross) are both averaging just under 10 PPG. Biggs provides the outside fire as the team’s top three point shooter at 42%. Bostic is a slasher and very athletic guard who lends excellent versatility. Both players will be integral pieces of the team’s success for the next 3 years. Presbyterian is currently 12-5 and 2-1 in Conference Play. The Blue Hose were ranked Nationally in the NCAA DII Top 25 poll earlier this season.

Georgia College and State University is having one of their best season's in school history, advancing to the "Sweet Sixteen" Round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. The GC&SU Bobcats (20-8) were Peach Belt Conference Regular Season Co-Champions, taking their fourth league title after being picked to finish seventh in the preseason coaches poll. SEBA 2005 Alums Bishop Tiller (Northview High) and Graham Martin (Pope High) are both on scholarship for the Bobcats. The 6’ 9” Freshman Tiller is providing solid help off the bench at the forward spot. Martin is being red shirted this season and is expected to vie for a starting guard spot in 2006-07. Congratulations to GCSU Head Coach Terry Sellers who won his 400th career this season.

SEBA Alum and King College Forward Joshua Edwards suffered two broken bones this past season which sidelined him for a number of games. He suffered a broken hand in the first half of a January 60-40 loss versus Wofford which had him sidelined for 3 weeks. He then re-broke the hand right before the Conference Tournament, ending his season. While healthy, Josh has given King great athleticism and solid inside/out play, as well as a defender capable of guarding quick guards or taller posts. King played its' best ball with Joshua in the lineup; where he had several double figure scoring games.

6’ 7” SEBA Alum and former Heritage High Product Jaquas Dobbs had an impressive rookie campaign for Clark Atlanta University. While the young team has struggled while playing a very tough schedule; Dobbs has been a bright spot and will be a building block for the program’s future success. The starting forward is averaging double figures in scoring and is among the team’s top rebounders and shot blockers.

David Gonzalvez (6' 4" Combo Guard) has accepted a scholarship to attend the University of Richmond. Richmond is a member of the highly competitive Atlantic-10 Conference, which is recognized as one of the nation's toughest leagues. David, is a highly versatile and athletic player who is capable of running the Point or playing either wing position. Notre Dame finished this past season ranked as the nation's #1 Prep School in all of the Major polls.
