The Two Directors of the Southeast Basketball
Academy, Billy LoPresti and Mike McManamey , were born in the same
Northern New Jersey hospital within weeks of one another in the
late 1970's. They would not meet until years later, where chance
had it, both of their families relocated to Tampa, Florida. LoPresti
and McManamey first met as eighth grade players in the City of Tampa's
Catholic Middle School League. Shortly thereafter, both elected
to attend Tampa’s prestigious Jesuit High School. A partnership,
linked by both player’s tremendous dedication and passion
for basketball, was born. Throughout their high school career, McManamey
and LoPresti formed one of the best backcourts in the talent rich
state of Florida. While at Jesuit High, they led their team to tremendous
success on the court, capturing both league and city championships.
Now, years later, SEBA’s State Directors are committed to
teaching both the game of basketball and life skills to today’s
youth.
Billy LoPresti (GA Director, Southeast Basketball Academy)
Billy LoPresti is regarded as one of the top young instructor/coaches
in the state of Georgia. His energetic and passionate approach to
teaching the game of basketball is assisting young players throughout
the region realize their maximum potential. Since the founding of
the Southeast Basketball Academy in the Fall of 2001, Coach LoPresti
has successfully trained hundreds of players in various SEBA programs.
This includes a large number of elite high school players and current
college athletes from throughout the Southeast United States.
Coach LoPresti has personally trained over 60 high school players who have gone
on to earn college basketball scholarships. Many of these
players are now experiencing tremendous success at the college
level.
As a player,
LoPresti enjoyed a distinguished career at both the high
school and college levels. He was a 3-year starting point guard
and co-captain at Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida. As a senior,
he was named All-City, All-Area, and All-Central Florida by several
media publications. The Tampa Bay Coaches Association voted
him as a Class AAAAA 1st team All-Star.
LoPresti attended Oglethorpe University in Atlanta
on scholarship. While at Oglethorpe, LoPresti enjoyed an exceptional
playing career. He was a 4-year starter at the point guard position,
as well as serving as a team captain during his senior season. LoPresti
received numerous awards for his play, including twice being named
team “Playmaker” of the Year and recipient of the
Program's Coaches
Award. He finished his career ranked as the University’s
second all time career leader in assists. He also ranks among Oglethorpe’s
all-time career leaders in points scored, steals, and 3 point shooting
percentage. LoPresti was selected to six separate “All-Tournament”
teams throughout his playing career. He was twice named to Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Academic Honor Team for his
success both on the court and in the classroom. Following his college
career, LoPresti was selected to play for a U.S. Travel Squad comprised
of College All-Stars which competed in South America. LoPresti graduated
with a B.A. degree in History from Oglethorpe in 1999. He is a certified
teacher by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. He holds
certification from the National Federation Interscholastic Coaches
Program and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Coach LoPresti resides in Metro Atlanta with his wife and two young
children.
Mike McManamey (FL Director, Southeast Basketball Academy)
Mike McManamey is widely recognized as one of the top young coaching
talents in the state of Florida. He has had a tremendous effect
on the hundreds of players he has trained throughout the Southeastern
Region. McManamey has been the integral force behind the very successful
Southeast Basketball Academy expansion into Florida. He has a vast
array of basketball knowledge and is extremely proficient at relaying
these teaching points to players. Coach McManamey has worked with
a large number of elite high school and college players, as well as
a number of athletes competing at the professional level.
As a player, McManamey was the starting shooting guard and co-captain
at Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida. At the conclusion of his
senior season, he was named All-City, All-Area, and All-Central
Florida by several media publications. He was selected to the Tampa
Bay Coaches Association Class AAAAA All Star team. McManamey was
selected to participate in the Hillsborough County All-Star Game,
where he won the 3 Point Shootout Championship. Following his high
school graduation, McManamey was selected to participate on a select
United States all-star team that traveled to Austria and competed
against a collection of top European talent.
McManamey attended Florida Southern College on scholarship, where
he enjoyed a highly successful career. He was a 3 - year starter
at the shooting guard position and served as co-captain his senior
season. He was named the Sunshine State Athletic Conference “Player
of the Week” on three separate occasions. During his sophomore
season, McManamey connected on 10 three point field goals in one
game. As a senior, he led Florida Southern to the NCAA Division
II Final Four and a record of 28-7. He finished his career as the
school’s All-Time leader in three point field goals. McManamey
is also one of only a select group of players in the programs rich
history to score over 1,000 points. McManamey graduated with a B.S.
degree in Marketing from Florida Southern College. He is certified
through the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
