2021 SEBA Atlanta Shootout (Top Performers - Part 1)

    9/28/2021

The 2021 SEBA Atlanta All-Star Shootout was held September 25 on the campus of Pope High School. The 18th Anniversary Fall event featured 150 prospects from throughout all of Georgia, as well as from the states of Florida, Tennessee, and Alabama. The players were provided the opportunity to demonstrate their talent to the more than forty (40) plus College Coaches in the building, as well as some of the top media and scouting outlets in the South.

Here is Part 1 in a series of reports profiling the Event's Top Performers:

    Cayden Charles (6' 3, Guard; Allatoona; 2022)
Charles had a meteoric rise on the Spring/Summer Travel circuit, going from a virtually unknown prospect to being recognized as one of the top Shooting Guards in Georgia's Class of 2022. In that time span, the evolution of his game and development has been extremely impressive. After first making a name for himself as an elite defensive player in the Spring, Charles started to put up big scoring numbers this summer. While the majority of his scoring this summer was done in transition and off dribble penetration, Cayden's SEBA camp performance showed he has been putting in serious work on his three-point stroke. He shot the ball extremely well Saturday from downtown while also making great decisions as a facilitating playmaker. He quick first step and slashing moves to the rim were in full effect as was his high level defensive anticipation; collecting steals at a high rate. Arguably the event's top overall performer, Charles looked every bit the part of the D1 prospect he is. With his top tier work ethic and physical gifts (to go with a 3.9 GPA), it will not surprise us one bit to see Charles leading a Mid-Major to NCAA Tournament success in the coming years. He has that kind of talent.

Domas Kauzonas (6' 10; Forward; Rabun Gap; 2023)
Tremendous young big man with polished and well rounded game. Rare to see young players of his size with such versatility. His experience as a member of the U18 Lithuanian National team was evident. Very effective and comfortable playing with his back to the basket as a traditional post; scored consistently in the paint; good footwork and hands. But also did well facing up and putting the ball on the floor from short corners and wing areas. Scored on several drives to rim and uses length well. Did a great job as a passer and finding open shooters in space. Solid interior defensive player and was strong on boards.  Sure shot Division I prospect. Will be a major piece for a very talented Rabun Gap team that is loaded with next level prospects.

Malachi "MJ" Winter (6' 1, PG; Mt. Pisgah Christian; 2022)
When discussing top all-round performances from Saturday's Camp, MJ is certainly in the conversation. The strong and athletic lead guard absolutely shot the lights out from three point land (shot 7 for 9 in first half of one game), connecting on multiple deep treys beyond NBA range. He was equally dangerous using his quickness to attack the basket and finish well at the rim. As defense began to double team, he did a good job distributing and finding open man for easy looks. Even with his high offensive production, he still brought great energy on the defensive end, defending the ball at a high level. After winning Class A Private State Championship with Mt. Pisgah last season, he will be asked to step into a prime role this year as a Senior and showed he is more than ready to step up to the task. This kid checks so many boxes as a next level guard prospect...athleticism, skill, and winning pedigree. After Saturday's showing, we would expect multiple schools to not only be reaching out,  but to make him a high priority recruit.

    Damoni Harrison (6' 5, CG, Archer; 2022)
Talented guard prospect with intriguing game. Has very good size for a combo guard, can handle the rock well, and is an above average athlete with wiry strength. What caught the attention of many scouts and coaches in attendance was the non-stop energy he plays with. Harrison was all over the floor making plays. Whether it was a soaring blocked shot while helping weak side, a steal into a fast break score on the other end, or a slashing drive into a beautiful no look assist...he is the time of player who kills opponents with his versatility and motor. A highly capable scorer, he showed a solid mid-range jumper and finished really well at the cup. It is only a matter of time before his recruitment really heats up....and his performance on Saturday could only speed up this process. Gem of a player in Gwinnett County.
    Picture
    RJ Simmons (6' 4, Guard/Wing; Whitefield Academy; 2022)
One of the bigger breakout players in the event, RJ had a great showing across the board. He was a  matchup problem for opposing defenses, using his length/size to body smaller guards in the post, while using his mobility to beat bigger forwards off the dribble for scores at the rim. Did a good job of seeing floor and had several nice assists to cutting teammates. Defensively, he is a hard worker and has the willingness to scrap and battle. Excellent rebounder for a guard. Averaged 14 ppg and 10 rpg last season as a Junior; looks ready to have a huge Senior year for Whitefield Academy. Prospect who should be on the radar of higher academic orientated schools.
    Picture
Trey Harris (6' 5, Wing Guard, North Paulding; 2022)
Its no secret that the state of Georgia (and Metro Atlanta in particular) is a basketball hotbed and known for producing tremendous talent year in and year out. With that, there always seems to be players with serious talent who for whatever reason, go a bit under the recruiting radar...but who eventually end up being excellent players at the College level. We think Trey Harris is one of those guys. A legit 6' 5 guard who can really score the basketball. Trey can shoot the three ball with range....and also has the bounce to go up and posterize opponents with highlight reel dunks. He had both those aspects on display Saturday. He shot the ball at a high clip off the dribble and off the catch. He also had one of the best dunks of the camp....throwing it down on an unsuspecting 6'7" defender. His mid range game is solid and he moves without the ball well. Good Basketball IQ and attitude. Carries a 3.7 GPA in classroom. He needs to put on some bulk for the next level, but that should come with physical maturity. The program that lands him will be getting a good one. Has all of the makings of a potential future "All-Conference" player at the next level.
